Margaret Whitton (President/Executive Producer) recently made her feature film directing debut with A Bird of the Air. She began her career as an actor working on and off Broadway, on television and in many feature films. In the theater she has worked on new plays by writers including Caryl Churchill, Richard Nelson, David Mamet, John Guare, Wallace Shawn, Jeffrey Hatcher, and has appeared in many productions of Shakespeare, Chekhov and Moliere. Directors she has worked with include Arthur Penn, Wilford Leach, Richard Foreman, Les Waters and Howard Davies. She has appeared in films by Herb Ross (The Secret of My Success), Adrian Lyne (9 1⁄2 Weeks), Mel Gibson (Man Without a Face), and David Ward (Major League). On television, she has starred in the series Hometown, Good and Evil, and A Fine Romance, and several made-for-television movies. Her theater directing credits include Marina Carr’s Portia Coughlin and By the Bog of Cats, and The Public Theater’s production of Dirty Tricks, starring Judith Ivey as Martha Mitchell. She was an associate producer of the documentary film Been Rich All My Life and has written about baseball for publications including The New York Times, The Village Voice, New York Newsday, The National, and Hank O’Neal’s forthcoming book about Ty Cobb.
